Welcome to my blog!
Hello and welcome to my new food blog!
A little trip down memory lane about me and blogging. I've had a food blog ever since 2009, but a) never really seemed to find enough interest to study how to make it look good enough, or b) post regularly, or c) learn how take beautiful photographs (not that it was a big deal back in -09, but it is now). Because of that, the blog turned quickly into a personal recipe collection, only with the really great recipes I actually wanted to be able to repeat.
The commercialisation of the blog industry has made me lose some of the interest for reading food blogs. How does one know which recipes actually work? Surely not all the food bloggers find new great recipes each week? If they do, I'm jealous. I usually find only a couple of "keepers" each YEAR.
This fall my new fave food has been the caesar salad. Pretty basic? Sure, but for some reason, I never made the sauce before. And it's dead simple. And a crowd pleaser. Everyone loves it. This is a good example of the food I typically like. It's not Instagram-friendly. Quite frankly, it's pretty boring and often ugly. I'm a lover of the classics like caesar salad, salmon soup or the Finnish meat balls. To me, the most comforting foods are usually the ones I ate as a child. They are so nostalgic to me.
Do you ever hit a wall when trying to answer the question "What am I going to eat today/ this week?" I do, often. And usually end up making the same foods over and over again. I got tired of this routine and started to collect a list of my favourite foods and whenever I'm not feeling very creative, I can just pick something on that list. That list will be the basis of this blog. How long would your list be? Mine has about 40 items on it.
40 items is not enough for me, because I crave challenge and change. That's why I started collecting another list in hopes of finding new stuff to cook. A list of well rated recipes that I'm interested in on the web like clam chowder and panzanella. The criteria for making the cut was to score more than 4.5/5 and have plenty of reviews.
Here are some of my fave foods, not in any particular order:
Spaghetti alle vongole
Spanish ensalada mixta
Falafel with hummus et al
American breakfast
Caesar salad
Buckwheat galette
Pasta with truffle sauce
Here are some of the foods on my TODO list:
Clam chowder
Falafels
Bouillabaisse
Fish and chips
American pancakes
Pappa al pomodoro
Panzanella
Bonus: Finnish favorites:
Meatballs
Baked salmon
Salmon soup
Sautéed reindeer
Macaroni casserole (makaronilaatikko)
Now, it would be really interesting to hear some of your favourite foods, dear reader. Do you know a really great recipe that I should test? Please do share.
